The Green Municipal Fund offers funding to reduce local GHG emissions by using recovered or renewable thermal energy in new or existing municipal facilities.
The award covers up to 50% of your projects eligible expenses (or 80% in financing for capital projects) and is open to any Canadian municipal government, or municipal partner applying in partnership with the government
The funding will cover studies for projects that use recovered or renewable thermal energy in new or existing facilities. They are looking for projects with transformative potential, that will implement solutions that will generate significant impact. This opportunity will help Canadian cities and communities of all sizes use less energy, which reduces their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improves their air quality.
Grants and financing options are available for feasibility studies, pilot stage, and ground-ready projects. The scope of the projects must aim to GHG emissions associated with fossil fuel or grid electricity use by at least 40% compared to current performance.
Examples of what you might study include thermal energy use, such as energy generation from waste or landfill gas, construction, retrofitting, or expansion of district energy systems that use recovered or renewable thermal energy supply, etc.
